Intensive measures to prevent road accidents during the Holy Spirit’s three-day long weekend, throughout the Ionian Islands, thus including Zakynthos, were carried out by traffic police.
In a recent press release by the police department, traffic violations that took place over the period of the long weekend were as follows.

A total of 865 audits were carried out and 295 infringements of the Road Traffic Code.
Intensive police checks to prevent road accidents and to deal with dangerous driving behavior took place between 15 and 17 June during the celebration of the Holy Spirit on the Ionian Islands.
Especially in Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia and Zakynthos, units had been set up, aiming towards the prevention of dangerous offenses, such as excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper overtaking, etc.
Specifically, the audits carried out resulted in the following:

Checked: 865 vehicles
A total of 295 infringements of the Road Traffic Code (194) were found in Corfu, (38) in Zakynthos, (42) in Lefkada and (21) in Kefalonia.
From these violations stand out:
25 for over the speed limit
13 for driving under the influence of alcohol
8 for failure to stop at a red light
5 for driving over double white lines
6 for use of mobile phone whilst driving
5 for not wearing a seat belt
21 for not wearing a helmet
6 KTEO infringements
