UK travel changes from 19th July 2021

Grant Shapps, Minister for Transport has announced the following changes to travel in the House of Commons: 

  • From the 19th July 2021, all children Children under 18 returning from amber list countries will not have to isolate on return to the UK. (This is children both travelling alone or with family members).
  • UK Tourists who have been double vaccinated (14 day+ period) will not have to isolate on return to the UK from Amber countries from the 19th July 2021
  • From 19th July 2021 UK travellers must ensure that their vaccination status is noted on their PLF form before travelling. They should also ensure they have a printed certificate for travel
  • The UK FDCO entry requirements for travel to be adhered to for the country that UK tourists are visiting 
  • From 19th July details stating people “must not travel’ to amber countries, will be removed from the Gov UK site

Mr Shapps noted: 

“We want to welcome international visitors back to the UK and are working to extend our approach to vaccinated passengers from important destinations. We know that travel is important. This is not just of course about holidays, eager as we are for time in the sun, but this is also about reuniting families.”

Mr Shapps did however note that if required, changes could be made to amber list countries, changing them back to red if the government feels necessary.

There will be some changes to testing for amber countries from 19th July, they are as follows:

  • Anyone arriving back in the UK after 19th July, from an amber country WILL still need to do a PCR test on the second day. There will however be no requirement to do a PCR test on day eight
