Today the volunteer group of Zakynthos in cooperation with the 1st and 2nd primary schools of Zakynthos, 2 English schools from the island Morfis and Paraski, including members from the women’s choir Rodambelos, took part in cleaning up the most popular square of Zakynthos, Solomos Square.
The square has been cleaned by the team on another occasion for the same reason but it seems now that the weather has become favourable, more people are using the square and thus the problems of chewing gum have become even more apparent.
The team involved the local schools in an effort to educate the children as to what chewing gum can do and how harmful it is not only to one’s health but the environment as well. During the event many children realised just how much chewing gum has caused problems for the square and for most, their play area. The Volunteer Group of Zakynthos handed out T-shirts and caps to our little volunteers in the hope that they will continue to be volunteer members and spread the awareness that if we all just took a little time to help we can do wonders and of course many hands always makes light work.
A special thanks goes to those who could not actually take part in the event but helped out in their own way offering spatulas to our team members and our very own cinema Foskolo helping out with the broom and dust pan we so much needed. As you see there are volunteers all around us.

Unfortunately, there is still much work to be done but there was definitely an improvement on what it was. The photos below show the positive energy all had, giving the opportunity to well together and give volunteering the awareness it so much deserves. Go Volunteers!!
