Today the Volunteer Group of Zakynthos took to the streets with spatulas, cleaning agent and of course, in good spirit.
After getting permission from the traffic police chief of Zakynthos, the team decided to get the traffic signs cleaned up by removing any stickers that were on the signs. They started from the main intersection of NEXT and then headed into Kalvou Street, and for now had finished at the fountain area of Agios Pavlos.
Not only did they clean traffic signs but also the columns that were covered with old notices from funeral notices that had not been removed. Municipality light columns were also tidied up as well in the process. Today’s efforts had not gone unnoticed by businesses and residents in the area, whom of course praised the team for their efforts.
It is important to mention although most in the team agree that this work is supposed to be done by our council they pointed out that our home should be a place that we all respect and look after “it is nothing to spend an hour helping out where you can” said Kathrin, a volunteer that has a full time job but managed to find time to help out. “It’s great to see this type of action within our community! A huge bravo to all involved” Spyros a business man added.
In a thank you note on the Volunteer group’s Facebook page, it was also noticed that not only those who took action on the streets helped out but also those who are behind the scenes helping in any way they can, volunteering in any way the can.
