Weather: Storms in Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Evia, Crete and Attica

The rapid change of weather brings strong bad weather with rains and thunderstorms. See which areas will be hit by the severe weather.

The weather changes abruptly and brings extreme weather events throughout Greece, such as rain, thunderstorms and hail.

In fact, the Civil Protection and the EMY issued an emergency bulletin, warning of the areas that will be hit by bad weather.

More specifically, the National Meteorological Service emphasizes that the change of weather is forecast from late Tuesday night (27/10) and from the west – southwest.

Also, the bad weather will prevail on Wednesday (28/10) in most parts of the country with heavy rains and thunderstorms in places that will be accompanied by hail and strong winds.

In addition, the following areas of the country will be in the “target” of extreme weather phenomena:

a) From late Tuesday night (27/10) the Ionian, mainly the islands of the central and southern Ionian and probably the southern parts of the Peloponnese.

b) From the first hours of Wednesday (28/10) the Peloponnese, Crete, gradually Central Greece (including Attica) and Evia. From noon Thessaly, the Sporades, the southern parts of Epirus and the Cyclades.

From the afternoon the Dodecanese and the islands of the northeastern Aegean, while from the evening the Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

Nevertheless, the gradual weakening of the phenomena is expected, from its afternoon
Wednesday in the Ionian Islands and the western mainland, from the early hours of Thursday in the central and southern continents and Crete and from the afternoon of Thursday (29/10) and in other areas.

The following is the detailed forecast of EMY for the next days:

Wednesday 28-10-2020

Heavy rains and thunderstorms in places accompanied by hail and strong winds are expected in most areas, with the exception of the northwestern parts. Initially, strong phenomena are expected in the Ionian, mainly in the islands of the central and southern seas, in the Peloponnese and in Crete. Central Greece (including Attica) and Evia will be gradually affected.

From noon, strong phenomena will extend to Thessaly, the Sporades, the southern parts of Epirus and the Cyclades. In the Dodecanese and the islands of the northeastern Aegean, strong phenomena are expected from the afternoon, while in Central and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the evening hours. In the Ionian Islands and the western mainland, a gradual weakening of the phenomena is forecast from the afternoon.

The winds will blow in the central and south from south directions 5 to 7 and in the rest from east directions 4 to 6 Beaufort. The temperature will drop, in terms of its maximum values, mainly in the central and southern part.

Thursday 29-10-2020

In the Ionian and the western mainland, generally clear weather with temporary local clouds. In the rest of the country, heavy rains and thunderstorms in places. However, from the early morning hours the effects will weaken in the central and southern continents and Crete where the weather will gradually improve. In the other sections, the effects are expected to weaken from the afternoon.

The winds will blow in the Ionian and the mainland from north directions 4 to 6 Beaufort. In the rest from southern directions with the same intensity, which will gradually turn to northern directions. The temperature will not change significantly.

Friday 30-10-2020

A few clouds in places increased mainly in the eastern mainland and the Aegean where there will be local rains and in the sea isolated thunderstorms. Winds will blow north northwest 4 to 6 Beaufort. The temperature will not change significantly.

Saturday 31-10-2020 and Sunday 01-11-2020

In the eastern and southern continents, in the Aegean and Crete clouds at intervals with little local rain. In the rest of the country generally clear weather.

The winds will blow from north 4 to 6 beauforts. The temperature will drop mainly in the east on Sunday.
