WWF to visit the Ionian islands

This month the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)  will visit Zakynthos on its boat the Blue Panda. The visit is part of a Mediterranean tour that will aim to raise awareness of the detrimental environmental affects that oil extraction has on the oceans and marine life. The tour will also highlight the problem that plastic pollution is causing for the natural environment.

The trip to Greece is especially important due to the existing threat of oil extraction and research around the Greek coastline. The Blue Panda hopes to raise awareness of the risks to various parts of Greece that is likely if oil and gas extraction goes ahead. During the visit WWF team will host a number of exiting events. Visitors will be able to “virtually” dive the sea and swim with dolphins, there will also be interactive photo exhibits highlighting the negative impacts of oil extraction impacting the environment. Visitors will also be able to board the Blue Panda to explore, ask questions and take photos, as well as leave their own messages in response to the proposed oil and gas extraction and current problems we all face from plastic pollution.

The Blue Panda will also visit other Ionian islands on the tour too.

The visit schedule is:
