From self-catering apartments to luxury waterfront hotels, the island has plenty of accommodation to choose from. There are sunbeds under umbrellas, swimming pools to cool down in, and cocktails to sip from whilst watching the waves on the shore. With plenty of traditional Greek tavernas or restaurants that cater to other cuisines, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out. If you want it, the pace is slow, with life operating on Greek time. There’s nothing to rush for, just time to sit relax and enjoy life in beautiful surroundings with great company and good food.

The heritage holiday

With history hidden around every corner, Zakynthos has a lot of surprises in store for visitors who want to learn more about the culture, history, and heritage of their surroundings. With old churches and monasteries, an ancient castle, and plenty of old sites to explore, off the beaten track, visitors can be transported back to the past instantly.

There are over 10 Museums on the island where visitors can learn more about Zakynthian history and folklore as well as its flora, fauna, and wildlife. There are also traditional Greek and Zakynthian Festivals throughout the year, focusing on the island’s past, heritage, and the island’s Patron saint, Saint Dionysus, which are great to get involved in and experience.

The extreme holiday

For those who have a love of extreme sports holidays, Zakynthos can offer just that! From base jumping to cycling, rock climbing to water sports, there’s something for everyone. Zakynthos has some of the most incredible views and terrain. Much use has been made of them by those who like more than sunbeds and relaxing on their holiday.

There are some excellent cycling routes around the island taking in the scenery as well as the opportunity to explore some challenging roads and hills. There are sites for climbers and the impressive yet daunting Cliffs at Navagio Bay are used by Base Jumpers. Water sports enthusiasts can parasail, water ski, and kayak to the heart’s content at Saint Nicholas beach in Vassilikos.
