The example of volunteering is best illustrated by a number of volunteer groups, this time “Zacleanthos”. Continuing to go from beach to beach removing as much trash as possible. It is worth noting once again that this volunteer team was created by foreigners who love Zakynthos. This time they were in Tsilivi for their clean up campaign, but not alone. Along with the team this time joining forces was the Volunteer Group of Zakynthos and Tsilivi’s President Mr. Giakoumelos, together with local businessmen. Everyone helped where needed.
People are becoming more aware:-
“The participation from our members was great because we were 20 people in total. The president of Tsilivi came with us, involved in the cleaning together with local businessmen. We collected 10 plastic bags, mainly toys, mugs and various other items. Of course we found, as is always the case, many straws. Most important of all we do see is change. That is, the residents are trying to help keep their area clean. “
A surprise to most was that three women who were expecting a baby were involved in the action, while many Greeks were present alongside foreigners. Mrs Vasiskova also thanked the Volunteer Group of Zakynthos, which supports ‘Zacleanthos’ whenever needed. “Three pregnant women took part in cleaning the area. The Volunteer Group of Zakyntos and Dionysis Nikolopoulos, of course, were there to help us as well. Other Volunteer Groups ask how they can help and we are very happy about that. ”
The Volunteer Group of Zakynthos: “Cooperation is necessary”
On behalf of the Volunteer Group of Zakynthos, Dionysios Nikolopoulos spoke, who stressed that cooperation between all these organizations is necessary for a better outcome for our island.
“We also helped ZaCLEANthos. We enjoyed the day and did everything we could. We even gave them a gift and three pitch forks to make their cleaning easier. We are all together in such things that are done for the good of our island. There is a pleasant collaboration between the Volunteer Teams and this is not the first time we have worked with the team to help them, ”Mr Nikolopoulos told us.
ZaCLEANthos is already planning its next cleanups, as they will return to Laganas, where they will go to a landfill site and plan to visit the troubled Holy Trinity (near EOT Beach) to remove as much trash as possible. The volunteers in this group call on anyone who wants to support their efforts and stress that all they need is love and love for our homeland.
