Zakynthos:- 10 patients being treated in the coronavirus clinic, Zakynthos Hospital

Zakynthos, 10 patients in covid clinic.

The situation that has formed due to the pandemic was described by the administrator of the Hospital, George Ragousis. Whilst speaking to our local news paper ERMIS the administrator advised the local population should not stop vaccinations and to continue to observe measures.

Referring to the current situation in August, but also to the cases recorded in the previous period, Mr. Rragousis said: “We entered August which is a peak month for the tourist season and there is an increase in people on the island. This also translates into confirmed cases.

Since the beginning of June until now we have had 348 confirmed cases and out of these 150 have passed through the Hospital. During this period we have an increasing trend in admissions to the Covid clinic, but without any risk in cases. We now have 10 patients in the clinic, but the cases are not aggravated. We will see in the next 20 days if they will need to enter the ICU. So we have to be vigilant. We need to be careful and continue personal protection measures. “Everyone should also be vaccinated because there is no other option.”

Regarding the number of people who have been vaccinated in Zakynthos, Mr. Ragousis said that “we are in a very good position as so far 42,000 vaccinations have been given. Of these vaccines, 21,000 are both doses and 24,000 are one dose. However, the effort must continue in order to be able to gain complete immunity. The vaccination rate is good, assuming the population is 40,000 and excluding children from this number. Everyone needs to think about their health, their business and their interaction with each other. Experience has shown that people in the tourism industry have been vaccinated with the Johnson vaccine. If one wants to make an appointment there is no waiting as before and it can be done within a week of vaccination. That is, everyone can choose the vaccine they want to get and this can be done immediately “.

Finally, in regards to the DELTA mutation, Mr. Ragousis said we are unable to detect it in Zakynthos only with tests in Athens.
