The outbreak of the pandemic with the high point being schools and the measures that should be taken to operate safely was the subject of the meeting held at the City Hall of Zakynthos chaired by the Mayor of Zakynthos Nikitas Aretakis, with the participation of Deputy Mayor Head of Secondary Education Dionysis Pothos, Head the Primary Education Evangelos Angelousis, the Police Director, of the Port Authority of Zakynthos and of the Airport Commander, the Commander of the General Staff Zakynthos George Ragousis and the representative of Levante Ferries Giannis Pylarinou.
Regarding the schools that were the central issue, it was discussed to take stricter measures and to intensify rapid tests so that students and teachers are safer.
“There has been intense concern about the pandemic. It was discussed to take measures regarding Primary and Secondary education and it was decided to do more rapid tests, since the use of thermometers is not prohibited and we will also consider the measure of closing the canteens.
Developments in schools
Apart from the 6th Primary School that has been suspended, and departments in the 4th Primary School, the 1st High School and the 3rd High School, it was decided to close the 4th Primary School of Zakynthos for a week. The same does not apply to the 2nd Elementary School whose 5 classes enter quarantine and distance learning until next Friday!
Tonight at the Municipal Council
The Municipality, as it cannot make a decision to close schools, only having the right to make suggestions, at the Municipal Council at 15.00 today, which will be done via teleconference, will inform about the actions it will take in general against the pandemic.
“We also appreciate the concern of the parents and the cases at the moment. We are waiting to make our own proposals. There will be announcements on this today “, said Mr. Spinos on the subject.
The Head of Secondary Education, Dionysis Pothos, stressed that the request of the Parents ‘and Guardians’ Associations for closure of the schools was transferred to the Municipal Authority.
“An informative meeting was held with the Deputy Mayor about what we have done and what we want to be done and we conveyed to him the request from all the Guardian Parents’ Associations. He told us that what we need will be available. We talked about rapid test, about temperature checking “.
Mr. Pothos also added that he mentioned the situation prevailing in the schools and noted that there was a commitment from the Municipal Authority on the issue.

For his part, the Head of Primary Education, Evangelos Aggelousis, pointed out that it was discussed to take students temperatures before entering school, so that they are even more protected.
“Primary and Secondary Education was asked to take temperatures and the other thing was for the parents to sign and give written consent for their children’s temperature to be taken. “From what I can say it was a constructive meeting that provided solutions.”
