A few months back the programme MAX Vandaag “Dream house wanted” were here to film a story about a young couple looking for their dream home in Zakynthos.
1.4 million viewers
The programme went to air last night and the promotion of Island became known in nearly every Dutch home. With over 1.4million views our Island needless to say became more than a promotion.
The story talks about a young couple Sebastiaan and Shah Rukh, who are looking for a house in Zakynthos. The programme’s presenter helps find them their dream house. Taking them to see three different types of homes available, they discover Zakynthos in her true sense.
Firstly the real estate agency Mike van Luijk from JM Real Estate was contacted to arrange for three properties to be seen by the young couple. Wanting to see the authentic Zakynthos the MAX team came across Jackie Boots. A resident of Zakynthos and the owner of Nefis Travel she was able to take them off the normal tourist attractions routes and show the couple how Zakynthians truly live. In the programme she explains in her own language the traditions connected to our culture. She even showed the team sides of Zakynthos through her back to the roots tour, a side of Zakynthos that is not a typical tourist route.
The programme talks about the beauty of Zakynthos from the north coast with its high cliffs, along the east coast and to the south where there are many sandy beaches.
They even take them through the many olive groves, vineyards and fields of wildflowers.
Another highlight of the programme was showing them our culture. A little tour around the villages and how to make liquor. The welcoming into the Monastery of Saint George by the monks. A Zakynthian serenade along the streets of Zakynthos, a night out at a local taverna and of course listening to the National Anthem of Greece.
The oldest choir founded within Zakynthos, an all male choir known as “Faneromeni” directed by Stathis Filiakos joined forces with the newly formed women’s choir “Rodambelos”, directed by Andriana Lykouresi. Singing a capella lyrics from the famous National Zakynthian poet Dionysios Solomos, was truly a highlight within the programme.
The old monastery of Saint George was also shown in the programme depicting the religious side Zakynthos can offer. The monks welcomed the tream and talked about how Zakynthos was a front runner during world war 2 saving all the jewish community. They showed the team their lifestyle and how they live.
All in all the programme was a combined effort all round. Showing the side of Zakynthos so many people have come to love. Her character, her spirit and her beauty that captures so many and from so many other countries.
