Zakynthos:- Concern over covid cases.

A report in our local newspaper in regards reflects concerns.

As reported by HMERA, the increase in cases and the imposition of new measures from Saturday are of great concern to the local community due to the increased epidemiological burden in the area. We remind you that the new measures that have entered into force are: Suspension of any kind of event such as parties, trade fairs, processions, public markets, prohibition of any kind of gathering of citizens over nine people for any reason, both in public and in private, while in dining areas, the maximum number of people at each table must be up to four people, unless they are first-degree relatives where up to six people are allowed. It is also mandatory to use a mask, both outdoors and indoors. While the ban on the operation of all health stores from 12 midnight to 07.00 in the morning is already in force.

By decision of the Minister of Development and Investment and Vice President of the New Democracy party, Mr Adonis Georgiadis to open Lidl after covid was confirmed.

Not even 24 hours had  passed after the confirmation of a covid case on one of  its staff members in Zakynthos, the multinational company supermarket Lidl, which leads in this area in Zakynthos, opened its doors anyway on Friday afternoon. It is known that the store in Zakynthos is situated in rankings of the top three in Greece. It may operate as a multinational company with dizzying growth within Greece, but in the field of communication it operates is highly amateur… After yesterday’s opening, the company contacted our newspaper and our informative website today at noon, to tell us that (!) it had posted a notice -a poster type notice at the Zakynthos store to inform the public! This is how they inform an obviously and justifiably upset island society! We are also learning something new about the data of civil protection; that is, that the Zakynthos store was opened after a decision of Minister Adonis Georgiadis! The company while receiving answers to the tests of part of the staff, we do not know if there are new cases because answers to results are still pending. At the same time, the company took care not to leave consumers without shopping and brought completely “invulnerable and clean” staff outside Zakynthos! For Lidl direct operation and open funds are above all… and it does it well. Other, very small Zakynthian companies that had a case, sealed doors for two and three twenty-four hour periods,  waited patiently for all the results, did not hide anything and published photos of disinfection…

What the notification posted  says, among other things:

  1. REOPENING OF A STORE IN ZAKYNTHOS AFTER TEMPORARY SUSPENSION DUE TO A CONFIRMED CASE OF COVID-19
  2. The company informs that from Friday 28.08.2020 in the afternoon the store in Zakynthos reopens exclusively with the issuance of a relevant decision of the Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis.
  3. The store at the 3rd km of the 35th National Road Zakynthos – Keri suspended its operation on Thursday 27.08.2020 in the afternoon due to a confirmed case of Covid-19 coronavirus of one of the employees, following all the prescribed procedures in consultation with EODY announcement with a poster and clear indication of the information at the entrance of the store.
  4. Disinfection was carried out in all areas of the store by a specialized company and the disinfection certificate was given, all fresh products were thrown away as well as the bakery products (bake off) and were replaced with new ones after the disinfection while the staff was also replaced.
  5. All employees have undergone a molecular test for Covid-19 coronavirus and will follow the relevant instructions of EODY in case of both positive and negative results.

An employee who tested positive spoke to IONIAN

An employee of the store who tested positive for the coronavirus spoke to IONIAN about the diagnosis as well as the attention he showed in observing the measures. Mr. Marios Voutos said, among other things: “I simply didn’t feel well with a slight temperature and I talked to EODY to give me instructions. I was told that I should stay home and that if another member of the family or I show more severe symptoms, we should take a test. The next day my son had a temperature of 38.2 and so I decided to take the test and it came out positive. (…) I have been wearing a mask since March, I do not have a social life, I try to be careful, it happened and I just picked it up from somewhere, I have no guilt. I did not do anything wrong. ”

Another state-of-the-art Molecular Analyzer for the rapid detection of the coronavirus, including the necessary reagents, was delivered on Friday, August 28, to the General Hospital of Zakynthos. The new analyst has a total of four examination positions, two of which are opened through a donation from Mr. Martinou and the other two are put into operation at the same expense of the General Hospital of Zakynthos.

Aktypis: “The images in Laganas are worrying”

Zakynthos MP D. Aktypis, recommends all to keep  calm and in his statements to IONIAN points out that it was expected that we would have these special measures because in recent days there is an increase in cases. He also stressed that it is very important for the people of Zakynthos to listen to the infectious disease specialists and to observe the measures. “It simply came to our notice then. We are not in a state of danger at the moment, but we must definitely take these emergency measures so as not to make it worse. 60% of the latest cases were with people working in food and health departments. This means that they may not have taken the protection measures themselves. Young people should also be careful because they can transmit the virus to vulnerable groups. We have to follow the rules. The images in Laganas are worrying. And I cannot believe that some people still gather on the beaches after the closure of stores!
