Zakynthos:- coronavirus and vaccination data.

With the new measures being announced in regards to the fight against the pandemic, Zakynthos is doing very well.

At this moment Zakynthos is still showing Green (level 1) on the Covid tracking map.

The four-level preparedness map corresponds to 4 colours (red, orange, yellow and green) based on epidemiological indicators used by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The epidemiological map is produced weekly at the level of each Region and for Zakynthos the islands as a whole Municipality level.

ZAKYNTHOS REGIONAL UNIT DATA:-

As far as vaccination is concerned again we are doing quite well considering our programme started later than other areas. We are now nearly up to a 43% completion rate and our empidemic trend is classed as stable.

Zakynthos’ Vaccination Rate  stands at (1st dose): 50.76%
Fully Vaccinated: 42.49%
Positivity Rate: 0.04%
7-day MA Cases per 100k: 0.7
Epidemic Trend: Stable

Covid cases:- Reported by EODY today were 3 new covid cases. However, reports on our Island show that these cases were not directly on Zakynthos. The cases were more than likely people living in other areas of the country who still have their home address as Zakynthos. Unfortunately, this type of news is still not good for Zakynthos as it pushes up our epidemic rate, without actually having cases on the Island. We saw this happening during the winter months, so this is nothing new to how the system operates.

As for keeping our statistics at a good rate, we need to be extra careful now that our gateways have opened. The only weapon we have right now is vaccination. Masks will still need to be worn where crowds are known to gather, again this is a weapon we can use to ensure safety not only for our fellow man but for our Island as well…. We are still not out of this battle, until we get at least 70% vaccination rate our Green status can change at any moment, as we have seen in Crete.
