Cases after cases in regards to coronavirus in young children.
We remind you that in yesterday’s announcement schools will remain open although Zakynthos is classed as a “RED ZONE”.
Red zones in other areas of Greece have closed their schools but it seems that Zakynthos, even though cases are increasing, has not been told to close its schools.
As of Monday, kindy, primary and high schools will still continue to be open, whilst it is still not sure when Lyceums will open.
Increase in cases among children.
2 cases of coronavirus in children have been confirmed since last night. A 10 year old and most recently an 11 year old, both, after being tested were confirmed positive.
Authorities have been advised of the cases and as protocol states, closure of the classes the children attended will be implemented. Parents and guardians have been notified that all children within the classes have to be isolated for a fourteen day period.
A case of coronavirus has also been confirmed within another kindergarten, this time the teacher, a thirty four year old. She was confirmed on Friday night and is now in quarantine at home. Tracking has begun on all cases.
Uproar to close schools.
In the meantime, parents, guardians and the parents associations of Zakynthos are calling for a complete lockdown of all schools. In a report by our local newspaper HMERA, the president of the Association of Parents & Students of Zakynthos, Dionysis Georganou made a plea to our authorities to close the schools immediately. On his part, the MP of Zakynthos, Mr Dionysios Aktypis has made it known to the government concerns of parents and residents in general.
“”I am closely following the latest developments and especially the cases in schools and you should know that I have already informed the competent ministries, Education and Civil Protection, as well as the Infectious Diseases Committee and I am waiting for their decisions. I just advise everyone to be calm and to observe the measures of personal protection “.
On social media pages parents have expressed their concerns for their children and their health. Many had already taken the initiative not to send their child to school, it seems this Monday others will follow if a decision has not been made by our government.
The Head of the Secondary Education of Zakynthos, Dionysis Pothos stressed that in the schools of the Secondary Education there are NO confirmed case lately.
