Zakynthos; the jewel of the Ionian

No one ever thought that we’d hear the words Pandemic in our lifetime. Let’s face it, when you hear the words pandemic it makes you think of our ancestors during Mediaeval times, with poor sanitation, poor diets, and poor habitation.

The last year has shown us, however, the world always has a surprise up its sleeve for us. We have no control over it, sadly it just happens to be our turn.

The future

Here at Zakynthos Informer, we’ve done our absolute best to write up local and travel information for members so they don’t feel adrift or confused. And yes, there’s been an awful lot of confusion over the last 14 months! There has been a lot of people we’ve had to speak with, a lot of research we’ve had to read, and a lot of fact-checking. We’re going to continue to do that, despite the fact that it hasn’t been easy, because for us it’s about the future.

The future is so important to us and this is why:

  • One day the pandemic will be over.
  • One day residents will be able to go about life as normal.
  • One day the island will be back open for all tourists with no restrictions or traffic light system.
  • One day our hardworking and dedicated business will be back doing what they love without the fear of another shortened season or loss of earnings.

How do we know this?

Positivity. The biggest key to life is positivity. We HAVE to be positive. The past has shown us that even in the darkest times, the sun does eventually shine and things do return to normal. Our future normal may look a little different, let’s face it, none of us has a crystal ball, and it may be a future where we’ve had to learn a lot of lessons and create a new normal for ourselves.

One thing we can say though is Zakynthos has been through much turmoil and strife in its time: occupation by multiple nations, earthquakes that have levelled buildings, so much had happened. Throughout the centuries, however, the island’s residents fought hard and returned to normal and it will happen again. It wouldn’t be the tourist haven it is now.

That’s what Zakynthos is. A tourist haven.

A jewel of the Ionian that keeps on shining despite whatever life or Mother Nature throws at her. We will still be here for you and we can’t wait to welcome you all back to Zakynthos with open arms, good hospitality, and sunshine glinting off inviting turquoise seas. See you all soon, until then stay positive and think of Zakynthos!
