The Volunteer Group of Zakynthos spread Christmas cheer!
The Volunteer Group of Zakynthos, in collaboration with the Port Fund of Zakynthos, proceeded with the electrification of its manger today. The idea of a full-size manger started last year. This year, the whole project took shape with the cooperation of several businessmen who supported and implemented from the beginning the idea of the Volunteer Group Of Zakynthos
Thus, after the permission was given by the President of the Port Fund of Zakynthos, Mr. Anastasios Plessas, the corresponding space was found behind the amphitheatre of Dionysios Solomos Square for its final setting up.
The companies that supported the effort from the beginning were found, Mr. Nikos Vlassopoulos with the construction company “TEKO HOUSE BOX” that built the manger, the company “IMAGE” with Mr. Dionysis Fournogerakis that made the figures from thick Styrofoam FIBRAN, Mr. Sophocles Liveris who offered all the materials, colours but also the Styrofoam and the Zakynthos Electricians Cooperative that offered all the electrical materials.
It is an imaginative construction that we do not remember being built on our island with the newborn Jesus, His mother Holy Virgin Mary, Joseph, the three wise men who present their gifts to the Holy Infant, the animals in the Manger. Everything neat and tidy, even with the hay on the floor and the star of Bethlehem illuminating the manger so that the wise men can find the way to the newborn Jesus! The only thing we would ask is that people take care of it so that it is not vandalised.
Meanwhile outside the Regional Offices of Zakynthos, the team decorated the area as they do each year.
The team has also put into action a “Christmas Hamper” project for about 30 families who are in need to have a typical Zakynthian Christmas. Volunteers from all over Zakynthos have been helping by sending in shopping gift vouchers, meat, vegetables and fruit, even the Zakynthian sweet bread has been provided for. This year as they say, no family will go without celebrating Christmas as we Zakynthians do.
May the star of Bethlehem illuminate our streets and may Christ who is born give joy, health and prosperity to our world!
