28 council staff transferred to the Cleanliness Department, react with sick leave!

In a reaction from Council staff after being told that some staff , depending on their recruitment qualifications,  will be transferred to the Cleanliness Department, sick leave notifications have been filed.

Recalling that a few days ago Mr. Aretakis gave his own response to critics via Facebook. While pointing out that he is determined that the City will change course. Specifically, he stated: As regards to the restoration of positions in the department of Sanitation, to those who had been hired and for many years were engaged in areas taking advantage of their position, they should be aware that it is right, there should be no exemption and proud that with my intervention these people will stop being subversive on society for the mess and dirt of the island. Let some people understand with the will and approval of the public, the Council is changing course.

15 of the 28 employees returned to their normal duties.

The Deputy Mayor of Zakynthos, who is also responsible for cleanliness, Mr Dimitris Koutsogiannis stated: “We are now in a transitional phase. Fortunately, the Cleanliness sector was strengthened as 28 officials who had been hired (since 1987) in the Municipality as cleaning workers returned to their duties last week. There have been and will be reactions. Going back to a thirty-year-old set-up is not easy, and it makes sense to react. Some have reacted by taking leave until they decide what to do … We made no exceptions. All 28 were called to return to their duties. We told the truth to our fellow citizens. I think that the rest of the employees, tomorrow – the day after tomorrow – will be back to work. Already from the first days with this staff, the image of the city has changed and we can say that it has been cleaned at about 90%. The municipality contributes daily to the collection in the town and the villages. However, we have minor problems with the equipment because of damage. “

Zakynthians to recycle properly.

Mr Koutsogiannis also said that in the last 50 days, 450 tonnes of recyclable materials have been transferred to the Agrinio Recycling centre and, as he points out, Zakynthians seem to be recycling properly as the residue is about 18% of the total. The aim of the municipal authority is to upgrade the Recycling centre, and in the coming days work will begin to repair on the roof damaged by the fire. It should be noted that following the document sent by the airport officer requesting the relocation of The Waste Management Centre and Liquid Waste Management Centre, the municipal authority wishes to immediately begin the restoration of the surrounding area and work will begin on this matter from the City’s workshops. As Mr Koutsogiannis points out on this subject, “if the restoration is completed and the project for tree planting is completed, there will be no disturbance to the environment and therefore no relocation will be required. Our goal is to make a factory accessible to schools. “
