Cameo Island access in 2019

**Comments are now closed, new comments won’t be approved or responded to. Please contact your wedding organiser**

As many will know, Cameo Island has been closed for a number of months due to an ongoing legal dispute, the contents of which can’t currently be discussed. Due to this legal dispute, there is currently no access to Cameo island. A court case scheduled for February 2019 to resolve the issue has now been postponed to October 2019.

We are aware that many who have booked weddings on Cameo Island have concerns, please see the following statement from the Zakynthos Informer Team:

CAMEO ISLAND STATEMENT

Please be advised that due to legal issues we’re no longer able to discuss the current situation with Cameo Island.

Brides and wedding parties should seek advice directly from their wedding planners.

The island remains closed for both tourists and weddings until further notice/outcome of pending court case.

Thanks for your understanding.

Admin Note: No new comments will be approved on our website for this post due to the legal situation, as above, please contact your wedding planners for further advice.

  1. But does that mean access for wedding only
Not for general tourists who visit Zakinthos even from the other side of the world???

    • At present this is for weddings. The island is currently closed to everyone due to the pending court case. We don’t know if the island will be open or closed to tourists yet, but last year when it was closed, tourists were unable to access it and only weddings were allowed. At present however we can’t confirm.

  9. We were informed that pre booked weddings were still taking place how come this has now changed ?

    • Chrissie Parker

We are hoping that pre-booked weddings will still be able to take place, at present though there is a legal issue and we are awaiting confirmation.

  10. The hearing that is taking place now for Cameo Island To get it’s wedding licence back is it just the out come for 2019 weddings or is it also the 2020 weddings?
Why are companies still taking new bookings for weddings on cameo island if the island doesn’t actually have a licence to provide this?

    • Chrissie Parker

The licence is for al weddings from this summer season 2019. As noted in the main post it is a legal issues that was due to go to court in February but has now been postponed. We are awaiting the licence outcome and will report it once we get it.

  11. When you say “from this summer season 2019” does that mean from then onwards so would include future weddings ie 2020? Thanks

    • Chrissie Parker

Wedding licences for 2019 are currently awaiting a decision. The main court case is in October this year. We can’t comment on 2020, as the legal issue and has to run its course.

  12. Hi Chrissie

Thanks for the info. Just one question does this mean that there is no access for wedding to be carried out? or that weddings can still be carried out but will not be legal as in they will just ‘blessings’. Thanks

    • Chrissie Parker

As it says in the post, the island is currently closed due to a legal issue, please contact your wedding organiser.

  13. Are symbolic ceremonies prebooked for summer 2019 still permitted to take place on the island?

  14. Hi Chrissie,

My partner and I are due to get married on Cameo Island in September 2019. This was booked last year. From what I understand, the island is totally closed including for weddings, is that correct? We were advised that we may still have the ceremony on the island but would have to do the legal part somewhere else. That seems old news now if the island is totally closed. Could you clarify please?

    • Chrissie Parker

As it says in the post, the island is currently closed due to a legal issue, please contact your wedding organiser.

  15. Hello, my wedding planner has advised that our wedding is still going ahead for June 2019 but during the process they will get updates. Can you please confirm if the railings on the side of the bridge have been took down or is this an old picture? As looking at this picture it’s concerned me walking across the bridge. Thank you

    • Chrissie Parker

As it says in the post, the island is currently closed due to a legal issue. Railings would responsibility of the owner, most of the time there are railings but we can’t confirm at present as the island is closed.
Please contact your wedding organiser for further information

  16. Hi any updates on the weddings for 2019 yet?

  17. Hi, im sure you are fed up of being asked the same question, but im sure you can appreciate there are a lot of brides and grooms who have prepared and been looking forward to their dream day, only to be horrified by the news of the closure of Cameo Island. Is there any news at all for weddings in 2020 please? We are unsure whether to change venue or to wait and risk our wedding day. Any help/information you could assist with would be extremely helpful

    • Chrissie Parker

Hi Rosie, there is no information on 2020. As our posts states there is a legal case ongoing. That will not be dealt with until October 2019 earliest, so no one will know until the end of the year or January 2020, if all goes to schedule.
All you can do is discuss your options with your planner.

  18. Hello!
