Zakynthos:- Chloe Page & Annette Phillips: A pack of dogs have been breaking into our fenced farm for four months | It devoured sheep and goats and badly injured many of our animals (Video)

Our farm in Lagana was established in 2020 and hasn’t been short of problems since. We have overcome most with determination and an ethic of educating young and old about caring and respecting ALL animals. EXACTY WHAT THIS ISLAND NEEDS!

Our concept of a petting farm has become a respected business with a large following abroad and here with locals. The largest and by far the longest ongoing problem we have had is with the stray dogs. For 4 months a pack of dogs have entered our fenced farm and killed sheep and goats and badly injured others. They have killed ALL of our enclosed rabbits and Guinea pigs and returned on numerous occasions injuring previously recovered animals, even having to close our business to allow them to recover. What is a petting farm with no animals to pet or a few left too traumatised to accept human contact???

We have spent in excess of 10,000 euros to improve fencing, replace animals and cover vet bills etc. We have been multiple times to the police, the council, stray organisations, previous Mayor, vice mayor, new mayor, district attorney and NOBODY has helped us!

It is a huge problem to the business and not just a case of getting replacement animals to be slaughtered. It’s just a matter of time before a child becomes a victim. We no longer even allow our daughter to walk home alone from the bus stop just a few meters from the farm. So why are these dogs allowed to be free??? They are a DANGER to the public! They are being fed on the streets and are located at least once a day in Lagana. Why does know one care? We will not stop until we get answers and results. How can so many publicly and government funded organisations not do anything? Surely that’s why they exist to help people like us.

The games of passing the blame and responsibility HAS TO STOP. Our farm and it’s staff and huge following will not stop until something is done to provide locals, tourists and especially the most vulnerable OUR CHILDREN a safe and accessible environment to visit us.

As Chloe and Annette mention something must be done, we spoke to our volunteer groups and their hands are tied as the responibilty of removing such dogs is the council’s. Let’s hope our council does do something and fast before we see a child attacked.
