The Holy Diocese of Zakynthos announced the Program of Holy Masses and Ceremonies during the three days from 16th to 19th December 2023, when our island celebrates the Memory of the Holy and Patron Saint Dionysios. It should be noted that our regional television station IONIAN will broadcast the religious events live.
- Zakynthos Informer would also like to remind you that on Saturday morning at exactly 11.00a.m the “senio” will start. An announcement that our Holy Saint has left his chambers to be among his people. The “senio” will include church bells ringing, cannon shots and gun fire as a salute, even ferry boat horns will sound.
The programme
On Saturday 16th December, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.,
A Doxology with a procession of the sept Relic of Saint Dionysios inside the Church will take place and then the High Priestly Vespers will be celebrated.
We remind you at 11.00a.m exactly cannon shots, church bells, ferry horns and gun shots will be sounded across the Island in the “senio” .This marks the beginning of the celebrations
On Sunday, December 17th, 2023,
The main day of the feast, at 3a.m after midnight, a Holy Vigil will begin.
In the morning, at 7:30 a.m., the Orthro Service will begin and immediately after, the High Priestly Service will be held.
Around 11 am, weather permitting, there will be a litany of the Holy Tabernacle.
A procession around town will take place and will return Saint Dionysios to the church.
On Tuesday, December 19th, 2023,
At 8:30 a.m., a High Priestly Liturgy will be held and then, at 11 a.m., a procession of the relic of Saint Dionysios inside the Church in which he will later be placed within the Holy Larnaca.
We remind you at 11.00a.m exactly cannon shots, church bells, ferry horns and gun shots will be sounded across the Island in the “senio” .This marks the closing of the celebrations.
In the announcement issued by the Metropolis, it is noted: “The solemnity of the holiday will be announced by the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Zakynthos, playing along the city.
In the above Sacred Masses and Ceremonies, the People and Authorities are invited to attend according to the established order.
The Sacred Procession will be accompanied outside the Church by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Zakynthos, of the district of Alykon and District of. Artemision, Boy Scouts and Guides departments, representatives of Primary Schools, Secondary High Schools, Higher Schools and Technical Schools. The Mayor of Zakynthos and the Deputy Regional Governor of Zakynthos are requested to take care of the flag decoration of the city and the port. Also the Police Director and Harbor Master for maintaining order.
