Brexit Flextension agreed to 31 January 2020

The EU have agreed to a three month Brexit extension with 31 January 2020 being cited as the “new leave date”.

In a tweet, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council stated “ The EU27 has agreed that it will accept the UK’s request for a Brexit flextention 31 January 2020. The decision is expected to be formalised through a written procedure.”

If however the Brexit agreement is ratified earlier, within that three month period, then the UK will be allowed to leave the EU earlier. Talks of a General Election are still rife and MPs will be voting in regards to holding a future General Election. If MPs agree to hold a General Election then it’s likely to take place on either 09 or 12 December 2019 and Parliament could be dissolved as soon as the end of this week.

There will be more news to come, as this is still a very fast moving and changing issue.
