UK MPs are currently debating in regards to an early General Election Bill
At present it’s looking highly likely that the General Election will be held on the 12th December but current discussions taking place are to whether it can be held earlier on the 9th December depending on a number of issues such as timings and various timetable votes. Normally there needs to be five weeks between the election date and the closure of Parliament business.
The situation is changing almost by the hour at present and Labour have agreed they are happy with a General Election now but some MPs are tabling amendments to allow 16 -17 year-olds or EU nationals to vote in it. The Government have said however that if parliament passes any amendments that would allow 16 -17 year-olds or EU nationals to vote in the forthcoming election, then the Government will pull plans for the General Election in December. Currently EU Nationals living in the UK currently have rights to vote in local elections and some feel they should be able to vote in General Elections too.
We don’t currently know how UK Citizens abroad will be affected in regards to voting, they should be allowed to vote as normal, but we will update on relevant voting information as soon as we have it. More info can be found on the Electoral Commission link:

Once these amendments have been voted to they will have to be agreed by the House of Lords and so we wait for more news on what will happen.
