It’s been announced today that the tourism company Fosun have bought the Thomas Cook Brand name for around £11million. Fosun were originally a name involved in potential buyout of Thomas Cook before they collapsed. Fosun is a Chinese company and it is thought that one of their plans may be to eventually operate Thomas Cook as an online/digital travel agent.
The announcement says that Fosun have bought the Thomas Cook Brand in order to try and market holidays across the world, financial reports state that a number of travel companies bid for the Thomas Cook Brand including TUI, but Fosun were successful. How this will work, we do not yet know, but it may see the 178yr old Thomas Cook brand returning to the UK travel industry at some point in the future. It also means that the famous and recognisable Brand name of Thomas Cook will live on in some form.
The Brand assets of Thomas Cook that have been bought by Fosun are said to include the domain names, licences, relevant software applications, all social media accounts as well as trademarks.
This announcement is an interesting one and we hope to hear more soon about what his will mean for the future of the Thomas Cook name.
