Breathtaking rescue of Greek captain by Portuguese Air Force (video)

Breathtaking rescue of a Greek captain by a helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force in the sea of Azores amid 10-meter high waves. Oil tanker Minerva Gloria had to interrupt her voyage from Venezuela to Germany and headed for Azores, after the 47-year old Greek Captain had fallen seriously ill and was in need of immediate medical assistance.

In the afternoon February 23, 2019, a helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force with its Esquadra751 team rushed to the captain’s rescue aid, challenging the severe weather conditions.

At the time of the air-lift winds were blowing with intensity of 74 miles per hour or 120 km/h or 11 Beaufort and storm Kilian was sweeping across the archipelago of Azores..

While 10-meter high waves are striking the tanker merciless, the helicopter crew does its best to lift the captain.

The captain was transferred to hospital in Ponta Delgada in Sao Miguel.

The tanker continued her voyage.

The helicopter returned to its air base Lajes.
