Brexit rules deny UK workers opportunities

The UK Press is reporting that Mediterranean bars, clubs, and restaurants are struggling to find summer workers for the 2022 season. New post-Brexit employment rules are causing the issues as the rules for UK visitors and workers to the EU have changed.

For many, a trip to work in a hot, sunny holiday destination in the EU has been a rite of passage for many young people. The new rules however have made this difficult for those who would have chosen to do it since Brexit.

Zakynthos is one of the locations affected, others include Corfu, Crete, Ibiza, Majorca, and Tenerife. Several bar owners interviewed said that whilst hiring UK staff is now hard as there are now strict contract and visa requirements.

Many are instead choosing to hire staff from other countries such as Eastern Europe and Ireland, so they can continue to operate successfully for the forthcoming summer season.
