A record of fines were issued: 1,835 on Sunday only despite the traffic ban around Greece.
136 violations within the Ionian Islands!
The largest increase in infringements was found in Thessaloniki, where infringements almost doubled.
On Sunday, fines to citizens for unnecessary commuting increased. It was the day that most of the violations were confirmed, since the start of the commuting ban, due to coronavirus. Police officers within a 24-hour period totalled 1,835 fines at 150 Euros each across the country.
Police sources say this is also due to the fact that yesterday the controls were significantly increased on all major cities’ major road networks. The overwhelming majority of businesses did not work, so employees with type A certifications were few. Hundreds of citizens were identified as being without B-type certificates and without having the relevant sms. The largest increase in violations was found in Thessaloniki, where violations almost doubled.
Fines were imposed: 589 in Attica, 212 in Thessaloniki, 136 in the Ionian Islands, 130 in Western Greece, 107 in Central Macedonia, 102 in Thessaly, 99 in Crete, 96 in the Peloponnese, 87 in the South Aegean, 77 in Epirus, 73 in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, 70 in Central Greece, 35 in the North Aegean and 22 in Western Macedonia.
Zakynthos Police force were out checking citizens again this morning. Stricter measures will take place if people do not adhere to the bans in place.
