Coronavirus:- Government announces it will have a whole plan for testing covid-19 on tourist islands.

Strict warnings from Government officials-  A comprehensive plan for COVID-19 tests for islands is announced, where analysts will be installed

An alarm has sounded within our government as the recent increase in confirmed cases of coronavirus – combined with the relaxation of individual protection measures in health areas and popular tourist destinations – threatens to endanger what our country has worked very hard for in recent months.

After being informed by the Ministry of Health about the 97 new cases in the last 4 days, competent government sources predispose to the possibility of a new round of restrictive measures in the next 24 hours if there is no compliance with the measures, which have already been announced. The same people say that  Megaro Maximou is determined to authorize the Deputy Minister of Protection, Nikos Hardalias, to either impose a lockdown at the municipal or even on a regional level, if necessary, or to activate a ban on flights from specific airports showing an increased number of cases following the standard of action taken in the case of the flight from Doha, Qatar.

In addition, according to cross-referenced information, the Greek authorities have targeted two airports in a specific country in Northern Europe, from where several cases originate.

In this context, it was no coincidence that top government officials, such as Adonis Georgiadis, Stelios Petsas and Nikos Hardalias, reported that the government would not hesitate to re-impose quarantine at the local or regional level if there is an alarming increase in cases.

An expression of determination by the government for the situation of the new virus not to get out of hand was the decision to impose an exemplary fine on a well-known beach bar in Mykonos, due to the crowd that gathered there the other day.

The Health Protocols in view of June 15th

All of the above – just 24 hours before Vassilis Kikilias, Nikos Hardalias and Haris Theocharis describe in detail the comprehensive operational plan for the management of corona cases – either at the entrance gates of the country, ie islands or airports, major ports and ports in view of the critical date of June 15, when the country will receive the first large wave of foreign tourists.

Immediately afterwards, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to visit Santorini next Saturday.  Minister, Haris Theocharis, will also give a press conference in front of representatives of the world’s largest media.

Tomorrow, in fact, the Minister of Tourism will go to the beautiful island of Cyclades, in order to prepare for the presence of Mr. Mitsotakis, a fact that is expected to attract huge interest worldwide.

Analysts are installed on 15 islands.

In the next few hours, details of the health protocols will be available, which have two main components: the strategy for conducting tests at the entrance gates and on the islands and the shielding of the health structures within the island region. In particular, the number is expected to be clarified, but also how the sampling and mandatory checks will be carried out on tourists who will visit our country.

The tests are expected to be of three main categories, namely the molecular ones, those of the antibodies and the so-called rapid ones, since the latter are covered with the reliability necessary in these cases. As it becomes clear, after the 1st of July, sample checks will be carried out on tourists, who come from the “green” airports and are obliged to the corresponding ones from the “red” airports.

At the same time, the government intends to install analysts in hospital units on 15 islands, so that the samples can be checked there and not burden the already over-loaded hospitals in the big urban centres. In addition, the government will continue, as reported, the practice of recruiting medical staff on the islands, while – where necessary – will improve the logistical equipment in the local health facilities.
