Coronavirus:- Greece updates

No new deaths in Greece – 10 new cases

The Ministry of Health announced an increase of 10 new cases of coronavirus in Greece, this afternoon, Tuesday 05/05.

A total of 2642 cases and 146 deaths have been recorded in our country so far.

Mr. Tsiodras announced that in the last 24 hours we did not have any recorded deaths with the total number remaining at 146, 39( 26.7%) were women and the rest were men. The average age of our deceased fellow citizens was 75 years and 93.2% had an underlying disease and / or age 70 and older.

Thirty-five patients, 8 women and the rest of the men are being treated in the intensive care unit. Their average age is 67 years and 97% have underlying disease or are over 70 years of age.

It is worth noting that 81 patients have been discharged from the ICU.

Of the total number of cases, 598 are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 1317 are related to an already known case. To date, a total of 83,750 clinical samples have been tested.

Mr. Tsiodras stated that the implementation of the EODY Mobile Groups program for the detection and control of possible Covid-19 cases continues with the absolute priority of vulnerable population groups and welfare workers. Increased laboratory testing at all levels of society will also reveal hidden areas of the virus in asymptomatic patients belonging to vulnerable groups and other high-risk populations. The increase in the number of cases will also include the recognition of such hidden asymptomatic or slightly symptomatic cases which will lead to early isolation and action.

Regarding our reports of deaths, Mr Tsiodras said: “I am tired of the philology of deaths, the need to talk about them as part of our daily report, not as an incentive to fear, not as a cause for panic. The reason they should be mentioned is to pay tribute to our loved ones, those who left us to remember the price they paid as a society for the new virus. These are other times, they are unique moments. On the one hand we have the virus presented as a fellow passenger  in our everyday life (once silent) and we don’t want it touching our loved ones,  to make it disappear as quick as we can , from our surroundings and especially the vulnerable groups, so as not to mourn other losses. Why 146 are few? No,  Aren’t we sorry? Aren’t we mourning for them? Even if 1 more serious case of the disease is avoided, it will be a success “.

He added: “This is probably the most difficult crossroads of our lives in the coming days. There is no room for complacency. We will be monitoring the latest scientific developments on pandemics, treatments and vaccines. This is the science of constantly looking at data. and possibly change the course of action if we have new information. Daily monitoring of the disease will lead to safe conclusions about any further necessary interventions that we hope will not be deemed necessary.
