Coronavirus:- Restriction lifting measures for restaurants, cafe and bars.

The five settings for catering stores.

The content of the legislation that will allow the expansion of space, which will be occupied by the dining tables of restaurants, was developed in interviews with Mega and SKAI radio, the Minister of Interior, Takis Theodorikakos, while announcing that within a few days, the first instalment of new emergency financial aid to municipalities will be paid.

Referring to the regulations for catering stores, which will be submitted to Parliament on Wednesday, he said that the following will be provided:

  1. The stores that have a license for the use of common areas have the possibility, in collaboration with the municipality, to double the space they use for the development of tables and chairs

  1. If it is possible also on pedestrian areas (walkways) within the premises, the municipalities will decide in cooperation with the police, but without additional constructions or noise pollution.

  1. The extra space in the catering shops will be given without being charged with additional municipal fees.

  1. Prerequisite for all the above is to have an open corridor for pedestrians (at least 1.80 m) and not to obstruct the access and passage of people with disabilities.

  1. In cases where space expansion is not possible, municipalities are given the opportunity to reduce municipal fees by up to 50%

“We are interested in opening the stores, maintaining jobs and having a turnover,” said Mr. Theodorikakos, emphasizing that in cases where there is arbitrariness in the first phase there will be fines and in the second removal of licenses. “We will be adamant about the legislative intervention we will make,” he said.

The Minister also referred to the decisive contribution of the local government during the crisis.

He acknowledged that there was a shortage of resources in council areas, adding that “the state is here to support councils.” He also announced that in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance in the coming days the first instalment of emergency financial support for local authorities will be paid to cover the financial losses.
