The words of a nurse from Serres describe the harsh reality that coronavirus patients live in hospitals, while cases throughout Greece continue to increase. “What I have experienced these days is only tragic,” said Gesthimani Berberi, a nurse at a hospital in Serres.
The medical and nursing staff fights daily to keep coronavirus patients alive, and those living in hospitals can hardly be understood by those who claim that there is no virus or refuse to follow protective measures by avoiding wearing a mask.
The post of the nurse Gesthimanis Berberi about the coronavirus:-
“We are begging you:- My name is Gesthimani, I was born in Serres and grew up in the village of Provatas. My father is named Christos and my mother Eleni.I have a sister, Areti, and a wonderful niece, Maria. I have very good and dear friends, whom I also feel my family.
I feel the need to introduce myself to let you know that those of us who work in the hospital have not grown on this planet, nor are we consumables. We have family, friends and we are vulnerable people like all of you. Also, we have not fallen into any magic broth, like Ovelix, so that our powers are inexhaustible.
I have been working as a nurse for many, many years in difficult departments. I have come across very harsh images all these years, as well as stories of people who have marked me deeply.
For the last few months I have been working in one of the covid departments of the General Hospital of Serres and what I have experienced these days is only tragic.
The cruelty and severity of the pandemic and its consequences, it is impossible to convey to you, through a few lines.
I will only convey to you, the words of a 49-year-old patient positive for Coronavirus, with very severe shortness of breath, a few hours before he was intubated, words that tore me to pieces…
He sighed and said, “Please do not intubate me yet, I promise I will try to breathe better.”
Medical secrecy prohibits the disclosure of patient information, so let me randomly call him Apostolis son, father and husband, with many good friends who feel like family. I pray for him tonight, please do the same. “
