Emergency Meeting for the measures. The community of Zakynthos is worried about the number of cases in the last few days

• Intensification of controls agreed by authorities and services
• Call on citizens for vigilance and individual responsibility

The continuous cases in February have caused fear and great concern in the community of Zakynthos. After the 36 cases in January. February has not started well, we have already recorded a double-digit number of positive cases in the coronavirus, in just a few days. With Zakynthos setting heir own negative record of daily cases with 9 cases.

After this development, the reactions from many sides were justified, while an extraordinary meeting was held by the K.O.M.Y.( Special Purpose Mobile Health UNits) Zakynthos in the Zakynthos.  Present, were the Supervisor of K.O.M.Y. Efi Damoulaki and the Member of Parliament for Zakynthos Dionysios Aktypis, the Deputy Regional Governor of Zakynthos George Stasinopoulos, the Deputy Mayor of Alykon and Head of Coronavirus Zakynthos Nikitas Spinos and   Maria Mouzaki.There werealso representatives from the General Hospital of Zakynthos, the Medical Association but also the Police and the Coast Guard.

The meeting discussed taking more intensive measures against the spread of the coronavirus with more checks at entry points such as the port or airport, while discussing the increase of rapid tests.

“It was decided to intensify the controls in the Port with a rapid test that will be carried out by KOMY with the help of the Coast Guard and the Police. Police checks will also be intensified.  KOMY and the Hospital and the Municipality, the Region and the MP of Zakynthos will help for an increased rapid test to control the General Population “stressed the supervisor of K.O.M.Y. Zakynthos Efi Damoulaki , who added that there should be vigilance from the people and the citizens should be very careful.
“We will all be vigilant. “Through the press, newspapers and radio, we call on citizens to be on high alert and to increase their sense of individual and social responsibility.”

The Deputy Regional Governor of Zakynthos, George Stasinopoulos, noted that there should be better coordination in order to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
“We discussed at the level that concerns the Mobile Health Unit and for the best treatment of the critical situation we are going through. Let all the authorities contribute in order for there tp be a better coordination and to avoid further spread of the virus.’

The Deputy Mayor for the Coronavirus of the Municipality of Zakynthos, Deputy Mayor Nikitas Spinos, pointed out that those people who are under house arrest should be monitored more often, while noting that the goal is to do more tests in the community to check the alarming situation of the last few days.
“We also agreed that the monitoring of people who are in quarantine at home should be done more directly and in cooperation with the police. More rapid tests should be performed so that we can limit the number of carriers we find and do not make new infections We need to do more tests for coronavirus on our island,at entry points, by boat or by airport, doing as many tests as possible ” .

For her part, Ms. Efi Damoulaki stressed that the relaxation of the measures during the holidays may have brought this result to Zakynthos with the increased cases, however, she stressed that those who are positive for the coronavirus have mild symptoms.
“Everyone agreed that there would be an outbreakafter the holidays and it is probably due to the relaxation of the measures and the fatigue of the people in general. Fortunately, all cases are interconnected. Therefore there does not seem to be much dispersion. However, there are some outbreaks and increased viral load, but no one is seriously ill. They show only mild symptoms “.

The Association of Parents’ Associations requests the suspension of the operation of the Schools

The Union of Parents ‘and Guardians’ Associations of our island expressed strong concern about the epidemiological picture of Zakynthos and issued a statement requesting the suspension of the schools. As  Zakynthos is in the red and the risk is high, the Union emphasizes that emergency measures are needed to fight the coronavirus.
“The Zakynthos Students ‘Parents’ Association, with regard to the situation that has been created regarding the outbreak of the confirmed cases of Covid 19 on the island.  Expresses its concern and immediately calls for the adoption of emergency measures regarding the operation of schools. More specifically, we propose the suspension of the operation of schools of all levels in Zakynthos and the implementation of distance education, until the island leaves level B. The protection of the health of students, teachers and parents is of paramount importance. We hope for your positive response “.

The president of the Association of Parents and Guardians Dionysis Georganos, pointed out that there was a direct communication with the Deputy Regional Governor of Zakynthos in order to take the necessary actions and to suspend the operation of the schools.
“I contacted the Deputy Regional Governor because the island is in the red and when Zakynthos was in the green the schools were closed and now that it is in the red they are open. Now that Zakynthos is in this situation, Primary and Secondary Education must be closed. He told me that he would look into how he would forward it to the Ministry of Education and EODY. I believe that they will take into account the request we have made and their mobilization and decision can be immediate “.

21 cases
in four days on the island

The picture on our island is extremely worrying with the spread of coronavirus cases being large. In January our island recorded 36 positive cases of the disease, while in just four days our island has recorded 21 cases.
The 9 on Wednesday, while yesterday positive in the coronavirus were found two women a 53-year-old nurse and a 36-year-old cleaner at the General Hospital of Zakynthos. The first one was already in preventive quarantine and underwent a molecular test where it was found to be positive for the coronavirus, while as for the cleaner, there will be disinfection in all the places that she worked. Also yesterday evening there were three men and a young girl.

All the cases of yesterday are under house quarantine and show mild symptoms.
