Twenty more people contracted with the flu virus lost their lives in the week February 25-March 5, 2019, Greece’s Disease control and Prevention Center KEELPNO announced on Thursday. The flu death toll has increased to 111 since the beginning of the flu season in October.
A total of 337 people have been treated in intensive care units since the flu outbreak in autumn 2018, while 16 people were admitted in hospitals ICUs this week.
According to KEELPNO statement, 99 patients died in IC units and 12 in regular hospital wards.
- This raises the question about the availability of hospital beds in ICUs.
The report states that for the first time admissions of flu patients to hospitals has decreased.
Of the 337 patients, 192 men and 133 women with an age range from 0 to 90 years. the average age of the flu patients is at 57.8.
90.8% of the patients were infected with virus Type A and 1.2% with Type B.
15% of the infected 325 patients were vaccinated.
Among the dead are 75 men and 36 women with an age range between 0 and 90 years. Average age at 65.8.
98.8% were infected with flu virus type A and 1.2% with Type B.
The overwhelming majority of the victims, 88.8%, belonged to high risk groups and they ought to have got vaccination, the KEELPNO said.
