The 3rd “Gourmet Waters” International Contest AVPA 2019 took place, in Paris France, on the 1st April, (Agency for the Valorization of Agricultural Products)
According to the organisers -“Water has no smell in the absence of volatile contaminants. However gourmet water has a specific taste, corresponding to the characteristics of its origin. It is tasted like coffee or vegetable oils. The only difference being that the flavour is only based on the taste perception induced by the cocktail of minerals”.
Mineral waters producers from 20 countries met. An audience of diplomats, great chefs, taste professionals and distributors were present at the prize ceremony.
Divided into 6 different categories (3 still waters and 3 sparkling waters), these outstanding 70 waters had a fight to show their qualities to juries of experts, foodies, specialists of taste and chefs (including those of the Culinary Academy of France).
STILL WATERS
Light still waters, the Colombian HONTANAR received the gold, an astonishing performance for a first participation. The Danish water INLAND ICE received the silver, followed by a small homogeneous group composed of the Swedish water ARE, the Franco-Italian water MONT BLANC (Monte Bianco), the American water ENGLISH MOUNTAIN and the Corsican water ZILIA, received the bronze.
Balanced still waters, gold went to the Greek water THEONI, silver to CHANTEMERLE from Ardèche, the best French water of its class and the bronze was shared by the Spanish water AQUADEUS and another Spanish water AGUA de BENASSAL.
Still waters of character, Greece is once more in the spotlight with its water ATHOS, which shares first place with its countryman ZEUS OF OLYMPUS. As in 2018, the French water VELLEMINFROY from Franche-Comté shared with SAINT AMAND from the North of France second place, just ahead of THONON from Haute-Savoie and the Russian MOSCOW Levitated, in third place.
SPARKLING WATERS
Light sparkling waters, a new surprise in this very popular category, with its first participation, the Romanian water AZUGA takes the gold, overpassing the elegant Swiss water SEMBRANCHER sharing with the French water VENTADOUR from Ardèche the silver and the Spanish water SOUSAS from Galicia sharing with the Italian water MAXIMS the bronze.
Balanced sparkling waters, a very challenged category, Romania presents AQUA CARPATICA receives the gold, just ahead of the Spanish water 22 ARTESIENNE (ex-Peñaclara) and the French water VALS for the silver, with the French water SAINT GERON from Haute-Loire for the bronze.
Sparkling waters of character, Auvergne is in the spotlight with the CHATELDON picking up the gold. in front of another French water VERNIERE from Haut-Languedoc together with the Portuguese water PEDRAS SALGADAS of Chavez picking up the silver, ahead of its ‘cousin’ water VIDAGO (only a few kilometres separate them) picking up the bronze.
During the ceremony, the jury also awarded three additional prizes:
“Special Jury Award” to the Canary water BREEZE, for its originality, an extraordinary technological gamble and unique taste.
“Uncategorized Award” to the Italian water ACQUA SANTA DI TERME DI CHIANCIANO for its extraordinary minerality.
“Design Award” to the Portuguese water HEALSI for its superb bottle.
