Advice from Sotiris Tsiodra.

During the afternoon briefing that followed the announcement, Professor Sotiris Tsiodras noted that it was deemed necessary for him to proceed with the briefing as a representative of the Ministry of Health. He stressed the concern that exists in the Committee of Experts.

He noted that the main reasons for the increased confirmation of new cases are the extensive controls, the movement of populations and the relaxation after the lifting of the ban. He reported the shift of cases to younger ages and that most cases are asymptomatic.

He also stressed that instantaneous playback rate (RT) in the last few days has reached the unit. It is important as the epidemic persists and if we do not want to lead to an outbreak we should drop the index below 1.

Regarding the treatment options, Mr. Tsiodras was cautious about the existing drugs with the exception of Remedesivir and monoclonal antibodies. While there are positive signs for the drug “ Actibile.”

The professor was moderately optimistic about the progress made in the field of vaccines.

He also stressed that less than 1% of the Greek population has been infected with the virus according to three different studies.
