Zakynthos remains on orange alert.

The four-level epidemiological map corresponds to 4 colors (red, orange, yellow and green) based on epidemiological indicators used by the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The epidemiological map will be produced weekly at the level of the Regional Unit and especially for the islands at the level of the Municipality.

The purpose of the epidemiological map is to inform Greeks and visitors to our country, as well as to link preparedness levels with public health measures.

The map is updated on a weekly basis by the team of epidemiologists of the Committee of Experts of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with EODY and the Ministry of Civil Protection, taking into account the following epidemiological indicators:

• 7-day mobile case average per 100,000 inhabitants
• 14-day number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants
• Positiveness index of controls
• Weekly percentage change of cases
• Number of active cases
• Age distribution of cases
• Weekly number of new hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants
• Weekly number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants
• Vaccination coverage rate
• Active case reproduction rate (Rt)
• Completeness of health system
• Contact tracking analysis
• Mutation analysis

The final configuration of the epidemiological map results after a combined evaluation of the above indicators.

The map shows for each Regional Unit / Municipality:

– the 7-day moving average of cases per 100,000 inhabitants
– the positivity index (%)
the vaccination coverage (as evidenced by the available information of residents within the Regional Unit), as well as
– the weekly trend (up, down or steady).

At the two highest levels 3 and 4 (orange and red) Public Health measures are provided at the level of PE or Municipality.

Communication and detailed information of the local authorities for the special epidemiological characteristics of the area

Activation of a special EODY / Civil Protection ladder in order to:

• increase sampling for SARS-CoV-2
• Intensive and on-site tracking is carried out
• increase the number of vaccinations as a matter of priority

Coronavirus: New mutation of the Delta variant under observation in Britain.

According to the latest data, according to the BBC and the Financial Times, 6% of new cases of Covid-19, which have been genetically analyzed, are due to this new mutation, also known as Delta Plus. Scientists are already studying whether this is a new threat, although experts consider it unlikely to escape existing vaccines.

Professor François Balot, director of the Institute of Genetics at University College London (UCL), said: “It is potentially a marginally more contagious strain. “It certainly does not compare to what we saw with Alpha and Delta, which were 50% to 60% more contagious.” He estimated that “it is probably up to 10% more contagious … At this stage I would say to wait and see, without panic. “It may be slightly more contagious, but not as completely destructive as what we’ve seen before.”
