Influenza vaccine: Prescribing begins -Who should be vaccinated?

Influenza vaccines are on the shelves of pharmacies and today the prescription begins. 1.7 million doses of influenza vaccine have already been received, while this year’s target is 4.2 million vaccines

The distribution of influenza vaccines will be done only with an electronic prescription except for some special cases where a handwritten prescription will be made and these are:

  1. A) Insured bodies that have not joined the Electronic Prescribing system.

  1. B) Citizens (tourists) from countries outside the European Union as well as European citizens who do not hold an EKAA (European Health Insurance Card).

  1. C) Immigrants, who for various reasons have not obtained an AMKA or Temporary Insurance and Health Care Number for a foreigner (PAAPA

Instructions for use of the flu vaccine.

The flu vaccine should be given early and before the onset of the usual flu-onset period, as it takes about 2 weeks to achieve an immune response. Preferably the vaccination should be completed at least 4-6 weeks before the start of the annual flu epidemic in Greece (ie mid – to the end of November). In addition, vaccination is continued throughout the seasonal flu for people for whom vaccination is indicated and who have not been vaccinated in time. Co-administration with the coronavirus vaccine

The flu vaccine can be given even on the same day as the coronavirus vaccine – but at different anatomical sites – just like any other day before and after the coronavirus vaccine.

What if someone gets Covid-19?

Asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic patients with a positive Covid-19 laboratory test should get the flu vaccine as soon as they have completed their isolation.

Symptomatic patients with Covid-19 infection should discontinue their vaccination until their isolation is complete and the symptoms of the disease have resolved.

Asymptomatic individuals who have been exposed to a confirmed Covid-19 case and have a negative laboratory test can be vaccinated normally.

In other words, those who are positive expect to get the vaccine as soon as they have a negative test, and everyone else does it normally
