Greece:- Lockdown extended to 18/01

Lockdown until 18/1: Measures for movement outside the prefecture, traffic ban and click away.

Nikos Hardalias announced the extension of the lockdown. What about moving out of the prefecture, banning traffic and click away.

The lockdown is extended until January 18, as the epidemiological picture does not allow further relaxation, announced Nikos Hardalias.

The Undersecretary of Civil Protection pointed out that the quarantine is extended throughout the country, as despite the few new infections, the latest images of overcrowding during the holidays, may bring a new increase in infections.

The new measures will be in force from Monday, January 8, until Monday 18/1. Infectious disease specialists will then analyze the epidemiological data and propose new measures.

Thus, during the information from the Ministry of Health, he stated that in addition to the lockdown, the traffic ban is extended, the ban on moving from region to region and the opening of some stores by click away. At the same time, he clarified that every week the Civil Protection will inform about the new measures that will be in force.

More specifically, the movement outside the prefecture will be allowed in 4 cases:

  • medical reasons
  • professional reasons
  • return to permanent residence
  • family reunification

However, in case of a check – something that is considered certain since almost all tolls have traffic blocks – you must be able to prove one of the above reasons, otherwise you will be fined 300 Euros.

Also, the traffic ban will be in force from 21:00 in the evening until 05:00 in the morning.

The movement for the specific period of time is allowed for the following reasons:

  • health reasons (going to hospital, pharmacy, etc.)
  • professional reasons
  • walking your pet near your home

At the same time, hairdressers, bookstores and shops remain closed, as the click away will be put on  “hold”.

In addition, Nikos Hardalias announced the following new measures:

  • Kindergartens, Primary, Kindergartens, Special Education schools open from Monday  January 11

  • Churches services without the presence of the faithful. Only individual prayer is allowed.

  • Teleworking where possible

  • Operation of the courts with the measures that are already in force

  • Start of the matches in Super League 2 and the Volley league with special measures on January 17

Mandatory 7-day quarantine for travellers entering the country from abroad

Regarding the extension of the lockdown, the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection stated the following: “the lockdown has a negative impact on the economy, but has contributed drastically to the reduction of cases”.
