In the last week the Greek Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias met with his Romanian counterpart to discuss welcoming more Romanian tourists to Greece this summer. This meeting was part of a wider tour to discuss promoting Greece to specific countries in the hope of welcoming new tourists. Greece has seen more Romanian visitors with an interest in Greece, and the country is looking to expand tourism to the country, not just in the summer months but throughout the year.
Rus Lucian Ioan, the Romanian Minister of Entrepreneurship and Tourism said his country is greatly interested in visiting Greece, both for summer holidays, but also for traditional and religious reasons. He said, “We decided to do a roadshow in the Balkan countries, and not only so that we can support these tourism markets. Romania is one such country. It is a country with strong relations and ties with Greece and Orthodoxy as well. That is, they come to our country for our religious tourism but also for our gastronomy, they like the mountains, mountaineering, hiking, and they also like to come and rent small sailboats.”
In response the Greek Minister, Vassilis Kikilias said, “The Romanian market is very important to us. And for road tourism but also for the flights that now come from Bucharest, Cluj and other cities in Athens, Thessaloniki, to mainland destinations where there are airports and on our islands. I see a strong increase in both places and destinations.”
It is hoped by both parties that future visits to Greece by Romanian tourists will grow and that Romanian visitors will discover the amazing aspects of Greece on offer. As well as meeting with Romanian counterparts, Greek Minister, Vassilis Kikilias is also visiting Germany, Serbia, and a number of countries in Scandinavia to discuss promoting Greece as an all-year-round destination with a focus on city breaks.
