Greece:- Primary schools, kindergartens and nurseries

Infectious disease specialists disagreed, but eventually agreed to recommend the lockout to primary, daycare and nursery schools from Monday 16 November.
Primary schools, kindergartens and nurseries are closed with the suggestion of the infectious disease specialists, who completed the meeting they had from noon shortly after 19:00 on Friday. According to information from ethnos.gr, everything shows that the scientists also ended up closing primary schools, kindergartens and nurseries after the explosive increase in coronavirus cases.

According to information from ethnos.gr, during the meeting of the infectious disease specialists there were several disagreements. Many proposals fell on the table, there were objections and it took time for them to reach a joint decision – a proposal, which the government also wanted. The official updates from the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, are expected to take place tomorrow, Saturday, November 14, where all the details on how primary schools and kindergartens will operate from now on will be analyzed.

The last few hours were preceded by a thriller about education. The initial information stated that with a government decision we are leading to the closure of primary schools from Monday and then the kindergartens were added. The absence of Niki Kerameos in the standard briefing of the representatives of the Press gave food for second thoughts, however a little later the decision of the experts came to clarify the case once and for all.

The infectious disease specialists, after a meeting that lasted more than three hours due to the disagreements, decided to suggest the “padlock” on everything, judging that in this way they will further reduce the risk of spread. The need to close all schools had been stressed since Friday morning by the president of the Panhellenic Medical Association, Athanasios Exadaktylos, while the mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, had called for the closure of primary schools in Thessaloniki.

According to information, however, the main goal of this decision is to reduce the mobility of parents. As soon as the elementary school students do their homework online, on the one hand the commuting to and from the schools will be stopped and on the other hand more parents will go to telework and thus any mobility will be greatly reduced.
