Greece:- Restrictions in supermarkets due to coronavirus increase.

As of tomorrow Saturday 13th November the restrictions we saw earlier during the pandemic will return in regards to supermarkets

The rule of one person per nine square metres will be in force as was the case during the total ban.

Distance between each customer at the cash register no less than one and half metres and mask must be worn at all times, something that has not changed.

A relevant decision is expected from the Ministry of Development.

The restrictive measure for entering supermarkets is formalized shortly after the 6,862 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, which were “accompanied” by 55 deaths and 508 intubations.

It was abolished on October 25

It is recalled that the measure was abolished on October 25 and was replaced by the rule 1 person per 2 sq.m.

In the other stores, what exists today will continue to apply.

Rapid test for unvaccinated?

It is recalled that earlier, the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis, had stated that the possibility of unvaccinated citizens entering the supermarkets with a rapid test has been discussed, but there are problems in terms of its implementation.

“Of course it is being examined, but there are problems. We also discussed it at the meeting at the Maximos Palace “, noted Mr. Georgiadis, speaking on the T.V programme of Open, however, he explained the reasons that make the implementation of this measure difficult.

“There are some of our fellow citizens who will not even do a rapid test and we cannot deprive them of access to basic goods,” he said, adding to the problem of endless queues that will be created during rush hour in department stores.

Escalation of measures, if necessary

The Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, spoke on SKAI 100.3 on Friday about the escalation, if necessary, of the measures concerning the unvaccinated citizens. Mr. Plevris noted that “this is what Europe chooses, this is what Greece chooses”.

Regarding the discussion for the extension of the obligation, the minister stated that “if you extend obligations, you will have to predict what the sanctions that will be imposed as well “.

As for the unvaccinated health workers who are on suspension, he commented that those who are auxiliary staff do not renew their contract, while the rest are still not paid. He also revealed that the doctors’ associations in the hospitals are pressuring the ministry to return the unvaccinated health workers.

The Minister stressed that lately there is full cooperation with the private sector, as private clinics with all the vacant ICU beds available, participate in the public health system.
