Tourism: Tourist Agencies demand Rules so that the 2021 summer season is not lost.
What are the four points of action, what are the conditions for Greece to be able to welcome as many tourists as possible during the “transitional” year 2021
In a letter to the political leadership, The Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel & Tourism Offices, FedHATTA, requests timely and clear set rules for Greek tourism so as the tourist season of 2021 not to be lost due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Specifically, FedHATTA restores a critical issue for Greek tourism, the preparation of a stable policy plan for 2021, as vaccines and tests are already in the toolbox of pandemic management. Its proposal includes four important lines of action, which are the condition for Greece to be able to welcome as many tourists as possible during the “transitional” year 2021, but also to highlight its credibility in the international tourism market, investing in the next years ahead. The Federation had again suggested these important lines of action in early January, in order to make timely preparations for this year’s challenges.
The points concerned, according to the travel agents are:
- Stable policy and timely information
- Defining rational regulations
- Protection of workers in tourism
- Certification of the tourist chain against the transmission of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, The Prime Minister is convinced that by May all citizens over the age of 60 can be vaccinated
“We hope that this year’s tourist season will be much better than last year,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a statement to the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. “Our goal is to reach at least 50% of the 2019 level this year,” he added. He also expresses the belief that the vaccination campaign of Greece, Operation “Freedom”, will ensure that by May all citizens over 60 years of age and those who have underlying diseases can be vaccinated.
Shortly before the afternoon teleconference of the leaders of the European Union, the Süddeutsche Zeitung notes that “the Greek Prime Minister seeks to facilitate travel to the EU”, while standing especially on the initiative of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to introduce a vaccination certificate for C 19 for the Member States of the Union.
