A patient with the South African mutation of coronavirus in hospital at Pyrgos, 77 year old from Kefalonia.
The first airlift with a serious case of covid19 took place yesterday to Ilia from Kefalonia. A 77-year-old man from Karavomylos who was hospitalized at the General Hospital. Argostoli, affected by the South African mutation, was transferred to the ICU due to the criticality of his condition.
At the University Hospital of Rio and at the Hospital of St. Andrea , Patras, there were no bed available and so he had to be transferred to the General Hospital of Pyrgos.
Thus, an air transport was organized from the airport of Kefalonia to Andravida with a C-27J Spartan transport aircraft of the Air Force. The plane landed shortly before 5 pm at the airport of Kefalonia, carrying the special capsule for transporting patients with COVID-19 which they handed over to the ambulance waiting at the airport and together with the special medical staff went to the hospital of Argostoli to receive the 77-year-old patient with coronavirus in the special capsule according to the strict rules and transport protocols for such cases.
A few minutes before 20:00 the ambulance with the patient in the special capsule arrived at the airport of Kefalonia which extended its opening hours due to the incident. The capsule with the 77-year-old patient was transported inside the aircraft which departed for the military airport of Andravida. There, an ambulance of EKAB Patras received the capsule with the patient and transported the patient to the ICU of Pyrgos hospital.
