Let’s light up Zakynthos.

The Mayor of Zakynthos proceeded yesterday in signing the contract with the contractor for the energy upgrade and automation of the electrification system for Smart cities.

This is in line with what has been announced for a budget project of € 12,775,734 – which will save energy in lighting, provide wireless internet and sensors at the points where waste bins will be.

The duration of the contract is for 12 years and the funding will come from the municipality’s contributors to the budget for electrical lighting.

As the mayor said, Zakynthos is changing its page with this initiative and added: “The company that is well-known and internationally will undertake the project,  since it has already studied the whole problem of Zakynthos where they need to intervene and within one semester they will take the necessary interventions. It is a “breath of fresh air”, a project  that will change Zakynthos. I would like to address Zakynthians and tell them that the strategic planning, which was attended by all on the 26th of January with projects about all the issues that are the responsibility of the Municipality, and that they have begun to materialize. And in 2019 we will change Zakynthos, as we have promised to Zakynthians. “

The Municipality will proceed on other projects in order to upgrade the infrastructure of our island, as the Mayor of Zakynthos announced at the strategic planning that was held on the 26th of January, after talking about many projects that will be and will help our place.

Work starts in March

The project is expected to begin in early March and will be completed within six months. In addition to replacing the lamps, a 24-hour remote control system will be installed on the island, while the contract with the contractor will be signed immediately. This platform will allow for continuous control and fault detection at a rapid pace. With Smart Cities for lighting, “intelligent” LED lighting systems will be available that can be adapted in real-time to different levels of lighting depending on the season and time of the day. This is expected to significantly reduce electricity consumption, as it is estimated that LED technology luminaries save more than 60% on power consumption. It remains to be seen in practice whether such a system can be installed and adapted to the particular circumstances of Zakynthos.

“We are upgrading the aesthetics”

For his part, the President of the Doctorate Engineer, Al Gizao Tarik, thanked all for the welcoming and promised that all efforts will be made so that the electrician will  be upgraded in Zakynthos. He also mentioned in detail what this project would offer, adding “With great joy and sense of responsibility, we undertake a very large infrastructural project for the island of Zakynthos, which is the upgrading of the entire road lighting of the Municipality and the island with smart tele-controlled lighting fixtures LED. The goal of the project beyond the upgrade is to develop intelligent Smart Cities, smart applications and introduce the municipality in the Smart Cities world. Our company also undertakes maintenance of the network for 12 years and enjoys a share of the energy savings that this project will achieve. We want to quickly meet the expectations of the Municipality and the Municipalities, to improve the aesthetics and the level of brightness of the city, but also to comply with the European standards. “
