In a statement thanking MP of Zakynthos Mr. Dionysios Aktypis. Mrs Mikia Stamiri, member of the board of directors of the public historical library, explains that no one has taken interest in the library for over thirteen years.
“We should thank the MP of Zakynthos for his genuine interest in the study of the restoration of the masonry in the Library Reading Room, which has been closed since 2006! I say this without having or serving any political purpose. It’s just the first time in 13 years that we’ve seen anyone interested in such an important issue. As a member of the Board of Directors and since there are priceless books in the Library dating back to the 15th century that are being recorded online. The State Legal Council has been in consultation since 1979. An on going saga that the building that houses the library belongs to the Municipality of Zakynthos.
A court is still pending to fully clarify this issue. In the past there was actually a dispute with the Ministry of Education. The cost to repair the wall is not great. Following the submission of the study by the MP to the Mayor, now as a Board of Trustees, we will seek a meeting with Mr. Aretakis to see his intentions. I think we will be able to see him. There is another issue related to Mandolinata’s joint ownership with the municipality on some properties in Athens.
In fact, we have handed over files to all City Council combinations for information and I believe that at some point, I hope soon, there will be a debate so that the facts are not distorted. however, for now the issue of the Public Historical Library is rapidly advancing, and we will focus on that.”
