The subject of the operation of the biological plant located at the landfill site of Skopos poses with a document to the Waste Management Association ΦοΣΔΑ by the Mayor, who points out that the overall restoration of the site should be done as soon as possible.
Waste Management
The issue of Leachate, which must become biodegradable so as not to end up on the slopes of Mt. Skopos, is one of the top priorities, and it is well known that local residents often resort to complaints but also to justice in order to stop pollution.
Two years ago, a biological system was operating at Mt. Skopos however due to permanent staff being unavailable it had stopped because staff needed to be there on a permanent basis to monitor the installation.
The Mayor is pressing with his document for the department which is responsible for the waste areas and is now focusing on Mt. Skopos due to Liva already being contracted.
In the previous months, an invitation was issued by the Ionian Islands Region for Zakynthos to be able to submit a proposal for the restoration of the landfill site at Mt. Skopos, but it is not ready yet, and the Region’s new invitation has now been expected.
According to the Mayor there is an amount of 600,000 euros from the Public Investment Program which will be awarded and will be up for contract bids to restore the landfill site.
