New Fire Chief takes over, donations by the Hunting Association, too.

The donation of equipment from the Hunting Association was accompanied with the delivery and reception ceremony

The New General Commander at the Fire Brigade of Zakynthos took over last Friday, Mr Yannis Panopoulos and at the same time Mr Dimitris Patakis “Fare welled”  his colleagues on our island and the position that he served for a year, who now will take over the post of Deputy Governor in 1st EMAC of Attica.

The delivery and reception ceremony was accompanied by the very pleasant event of the donation of fire fighting material supplied by the Hunting Association and handed over to the Fire Brigade. The gifts are 98 tubes of 30 meters each and 10 fire hydrants purchased by the Hunting Association with money from their fund. The first part of the donation was granted last August, and last Friday they handed over the rest, which will be used, not only for the needs of the Service but also for any other needs that they feel should be attended to.

This equipment cost 6,000 euros and the money was collected by the Hunters for the reforestation of Bochalis. Eventually, however, it was used to buy equipment, much of which had been destroyed during the fire of 2017.

Both the outgoing Fire Brigade Commander and the new Commander of the Service publicly thanked the Club for their offer, noting that the donation was not only for the Fire Department but for the whole island and noted that the Hunting Association’s contribution is valuable for its protection of the forest wealth of Zakynthos.

We have to point out that the money with which the equipment was purchased is the money collected from the hunters and which is being put back into the community through this donation,” said Spyros Kostis, President of the Hunting Association.

The new Governor, Mr. Panopoulos, in his brief greetings, thanked the Fire Brigade Chief, Mr. Mattheopoulos, for the honour and the confidence he showed in his position at the Service of Zakynthos, while a special mention in warm words was made to the outgoing Governor D. Patrakis.

“Both my colleagues and I will do our best with all those who are involved in order to protect the citizens and the island. I pay attention to prevention and we will do our best for the best possible result, “he said and added that the position of the 6th EMAK Governor has been operating several times on our island and very recently last summer after the landslides at the Shipwreck.

Mr. Patrakis wished every success to the new Governor and thanked all residents and agents of the island for their cooperation.

The new Commander has already held the etiquette meetings with representatives of local authorities.
