Cemeteries across the country will remain closed to the public on Good Friday, in order to avoid overcrowding. As is customary on this day many pay tribute to their loved ones who have passed away. However, Holy Friday all cemeteries across the nation will be closed., announced the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias.
As he characteristically said, “we will have all the time after Easter to honour our dead.” He also announced that on Good Friday the food stores will be open from 13:00 to 19:00.
He reiterated that visiting relatives or friends from one house to another for the Resurrection and Easter Sunday is prohibited. “Visiting relatives we won’t be allowed, nor will the whole neighbourhood be able to gather on rooftops, in apartments, it is extremely dangerous,” he added.
He also announced that due to non-compliance of the measures applied, the operation of three public markets in the country have been suspended.
