Scammers on the prowl, beware.

Over the last few days, two young people, about 20 years old, have been casing the Katastari area, for possible break in and entry, on the pretext that their vehicle “has broken down”, they knock on the doors of possible victims asking for water for their damaged car engine. According to testimonies they wear dark clothes, they speak Greek and are quite smooth about talking people in getting what they want, except that there is no car.
It would also be common if scams had a national identity, in this case we could possibly say it is Greek. Mainly because the scammers use all their imagination when it comes to … getting their loot
Besides, this is not the only incident since, recently, at Macherado, a lady, relying on being a representative of a particular mobile phone company, proposed a very affordable package. Under the guise of her alleged status, she went on her persistent questions about the household, how many members she had, how many are staying at home, ages, if she is a couple, or if there is someone else at home right now. Of course, the surprise came after the other because when she asked for her identity, the lady showed it, but she was not the same as the ID showed and they panicked and took off.
Another testimony mentioned that an old lady in town went to get bread was approached by a lady and on the pretext that she was known to her children, asked if she could call on her home for coffee. So it was, and as long as she took to make the coffee, the unknown woman walked into the bedroom looking for valuable items, however was caught by the woman’s elderly son.
In all cases, they scammers seemed to be trained in their field, they know the “fairy tale” very well and target candidates in good faith. Whatever the case, citizens, and especially those who are older, should be particularly careful, since in the “industry” the fraud has evolved with every imaginable mind to pinpoint anything to enhance their pocket.
