Summit in Amman highlights cooperation among Greece, Jordan and Cyprus

Greece, Cyprus and Jordan’s cooperation enhances the strategy for the peace and stability prospect in the eastern Mediterranean, said Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras at the 2nd Greece, Cyprus, Jordan trilateral Summit that is held in Amman on Sunday.

Tsipras, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades agreed on the need to cement cooperation in the fields of energy, agriculture, tourism, education, trade and ICT as well as to  joint efforts to develop private sectors in the three countries.

On the peace process, the three leaders voiced support for a lasting and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through talks and on the basis of a two-state solution.

The status quo in Jerusalem should be maintained and both the Christians and the Muslims to be protected and reiterated his position for a two-state solution, the state of Israel and the state of the Palestinians, Tsipras said.

The summit saw an agreement signed to boost relations in investment and education as well as others on technology cooperation and anti-terrorism.

Tsipras referred to Jordan’s stability role in the regional developments stating that the three countries have to deal with common challenges and share the same principles.
He noted the need to jointly address the migration and refugee issue and called the European Union to confront the challenges and to support the people of Syria.

According to government sources during his meeting with King Abdullah, Tsipras praised Jordan and the King’s contribution in the addressing of the regional problems. He said that Greece can become a bridge between Jordan and the European Union.

He referred to the two countries’ historic bonds and to the new opportunities for economic cooperation, particularly in the sector of constructions.
