Tax evasion…. A list of who is more likely to evade tax.

Checks on tax evasion in tourist areas have shown that tax evasion in our country is well maintained. In Corfu alone,  6 out of 10 were offenders!

Taxidrivers are first in the tax evasion industry!

The auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Office carried out intensive audits on islands and tourist areas across the country. For example, in June, a total of 7,735 businesses were audited across Greece, with an average delinquency rate of 32%. While most of the checks were in the big cities (Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras), the islands also did not escaped.

Zakynthos is therefore ranked first in terms of the number of checks. 186 checks were made with 41% evasion. However, the offences hit “red” in Corfu with offenders reaching 6 out of 10 checked.

In detail, in June alone, the areas where most audits were carried out were Athens with 407 audits, which found 37% violations, Thessaloniki where 289 audits were performed, and violations were identified in 55% of auditors. Patras followed with 233 controls and 36% offences, Katerini with 200 controls and 36% offenses,  Heraklion with 28% offences, Argostoli where 173 controls with 29% offences, Rethymnon with 166 controls and 20% offences, Rhodes with 166 controls and 43% offences, Chania with 164 controls and 28% offences, Mykonos with 159 controls and 43% offences, Santorini with 151 controls and 56% offences Corfu where 141 inspections were carried out; Capacity reached 62%.

The sectors with the highest violations found are as follows:

Regarding reactions from Mykonos catering businessmen regarding the strictness of the auditors, AADE sources note that in the three years that the closure measures have been in practice, namely the 1997 law – none of the companies in which were found to have escaped tax and led to a 48-hour closure, has not been acquitted by the courts when they appealed.
